There is no point beating around the bush or buttering this up! If you do not take the time to learn about your pelvic floor then you run a big risk of leaking urine when you laugh, cough, run, sneeze etc or worse still, losing the entire contents of your bladder, as you walk down the shopping isle of a supermarket. This is incontinence and it is NOT normal, not after childbirth, not as you age. It can be normal if you ignore the muscles that sit inside your pelvis and are integral to the function of your vagina and sex organs.
Leaking urine is a sign of weakness of the pelvic floor muscles. It is a sign that these muscles need attention, to be strengthened before they create a bigger problem. This problem is known as pelvic organ prolapse, and the organs that prolapse are:
- The bladder
- The rectum
- The intestine (small bowel)
- The Uterus
- The Upper Vaginal Vault
There are four levels of prolapse with the worst meaning the organ(s) falling outside of the vagina (or rectum). Leaving your pelvic floor to chance means you run this risk and once you suffer any of these issues, your intimate life – the joy of sex and your confidence are diminished. Your life begins to change and not in a way that is profitable.
The pelvic floor has an important role to play in intimacy. The more conditioned it is (conditioned not tight) the better the orgasms, the better the ‘feeling’ the better the ‘grip.’
And to top it all these muscles that sit within our pelvic bones, are vital for stability of the pelvis, support of the reproductive and internal organs, our posture and shape/contour of the buttocks, thighs and lower abdominals. Which of these rewards do you really not want?
